Concept completed a full internal refurbishment of the Multi-Faith Chapel at University Hospital Southampton, working within a live healthcare setting and a short programme. The scope focused on improving both function and appearance while preserving the calm character of the space.
Works included new ceiling systems, updated floor finishes, and the replacement of windows and doors with aluminium units. We also carried out full redecoration, installed new lighting, and fitted clear, accessible signage. Each element supported ease of use, durability, and comfort for patients, staff, and visitors.

The primary challenge involved working within an operational hospital while refurbishing a space used for reflection and prayer. We sequenced activities carefully to control noise, dust, and access, and we maintained close coordination with NHS Estates at all stages.
Our approach ensured a smooth delivery within the three-week period. The completed space now offers a brighter, calmer setting that supports people of all faiths without impacting hospital operations.
Innovations, challenges, solutions
Planned and delivered the works to minimise disruption while maintaining a respectful environment throughout the programme.
