Placements for successful candidates usually commence around September when you will begin your work at Concept, and also at the college and/or university we have selected for you to attend.
All new recruits attend an induction day, where they can be introduced to the business as a whole and to our Health and Safety Team.
At our Apprentices Welcome Event, you will get to meet our Executive Team and Divisional Managers as well as your fellow Apprentices.

When applying to be a Concept subcontractor or supplier, who sees my data and how is it being used?
Your company’s information will be accessible to Concept staff who have been granted permission to use the supply chain portal in their roles. Prior to approval, your details will be assessed by relevant internal departments such as Finance, Health and Safety, Sustainability and others to verify that all required information has been provided.
Following approval, our Contract Managers will utilise the directory to identify companies suitable for delivering work aligned with specific project requirements. Your company information will not be visible to or distributed to any external organisation. Concept’s commercial team will also reference your information and the terms you’ve agreed to, ensuring work has been completed to the required standard.
What are the benefits of applying to be a Concept subcontractor?
After registering as a Concept subcontractor, you and your company become searchable and accessible via Concept’s approved supply chain directory. Through this platform, you’ll be able to promote your services and expertise alongside your relevant certifications and licenses, which are crucial for undertaking work on Concept’s behalf.
You can also modify your profile whenever needed with updated or additional documentation and notify us of any new products or services your company can deliver.
Concept Contract Managers are actively encouraged to provide ratings and feedback on subcontractor performance. Outstanding work and positive feedback will help you distinguish yourself when marketing your services to Concept Budget Holding employees.
Can I still apply to be a Concept subcontractor if I don't have the right level of insurance or safety documents?
Simply because you or your business haven’t secured all of the documentation listed in the requirements, this doesn’t prevent you from applying to be a Concept subcontractor. We maintain a robust supply chain to ensure we deliver only the highest quality of service to our clients, so an additional assessment is required before we can confirm the next steps.
If you have outstanding documentation you’re unable to supply, or have queries before or during the online application process, please email us. You’ll need to provide some information about the services you or your company offers so we can evaluate your application.

Skills and experience
Since 2003, Concept has repaired and maintained properties and buildings across multiple sectors. Our experts offer a wide range of services including responsive repairs, major refurbishments, electrical contracting and mechanical engineering, putting residents and occupants at the heart of our work.
A safe pair of hands
Concept was established in 2003 and has grown to become a trusted property maintenance, compliance and refurbishment provider with offices across the UK. As part of the Axis CLC group, our values have always shaped the way we work, whether that’s with our clients, our employees or the communities we serve. We are known in the business as a safe pair of hands.
Flexible and Forward Thinking
Our clients value us for our expertise, adaptability and proactive mindset. We are constantly seeking and embracing new ways and technologies to improve our skills and the services we offer. We transfer skill-sets across sectors—for example, our compliance expertise in education facilities enhances our work in healthcare settings, improving safety for all residents and occupants. A Planned Maintenance Programme can easily incorporate our Responsive Repairs service, should our client require.
We work to suit our clients
We work closely with our clients and their own timetables, adjusting our schedules to suit theirs. A busy hotel cannot have too many rooms undergoing refurbishment at the same time—so we stage our works. An education facility needs works completed during holidays—and our schedules recognise this urgency. Our projects take into account the specific needs of each sector and property type.
Data Driven for Improvement
Closely monitoring project progress, performance and compliance, we provide regular transparent feedback and reports, adjusting where necessary. Our analytical approach ensures the reliability, professionalism and smooth delivery of every maintenance or refurbishment project.
Comprehensive Service
We pride ourselves on seeing our projects through from start to completion and beyond. Our planning and design processes combine clear communication, creative problem-solving, and a thorough understanding of building compliance and legal requirements. Our installations are conducted by industry experts, and our follow-up maintenance and reporting systems are thorough and transparent.
A Responsible Business
Concept believes firmly in adding social value to the communities where we work. We aim to reduce our own environmental impact and, by integrating sustainability into our work through our energy efficiency programmes, we proactively help our clients minimise their carbon footprint and achieve their government Net Zero targets. As part of the Axis CLC group, we support community initiatives and workforce development across all our regions.

Under the Building Safety Act 2022, building owners must register high-rise properties with the Building Safety Regulator and rectify unsafe cladding at no cost to leaseholders. Compliance now requires:
A government consultation is underway to extend the combustible materials ban to buildings over 11 metres.
What does decarbonisation mean for buildings?
Decarbonisation for buildings describes the process of reducing carbon emissions throughout a property’s lifecycle. This encompasses energy-efficient design principles, renewable energy integration and the use of sustainable materials.
Energy efficiency measures—including heating system electrification, replacing traditional gas boilers with heat pumps, and incorporating advanced smart technologies—work together to lower energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. As part of the Axis CLC Group, Concept helps clients achieve their Net Zero 2050 targets through these proven solutions.
What are decarbonisation and retrofit services?
Decarbonisation and retrofit services involve upgrading existing properties to enhance energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental performance, ultimately reducing carbon emissions.
Common improvements include insulation upgrades, double-glazing installations, solar PV systems and modern heating system replacements.
Concept’s decarbonisation and retrofit services strengthen environmental performance, supporting clients in meeting Net Zero targets whilst delivering measurable improvements in energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
What energy efficiency measures (EEM) does Concept install?
Concept provides a comprehensive range of Energy Efficiency Measures:
How can property retrofitting support landlords' Net Zero commitments?
Retrofitting existing properties significantly improves energy efficiency and reduces carbon emissions, directly supporting the UK Government’s Net Zero strategy and landlords’ environmental obligations.
By implementing energy-efficient measures such as enhanced insulation, solar panel installations and low-carbon heating systems, landlords can substantially reduce energy consumption, improve EPC ratings, and meet increasingly stringent environmental standards. Concept works with landlords and housing providers to develop tailored retrofit strategies that balance regulatory compliance, cost-effectiveness and resident comfort, creating a pathway to Net Zero that’s both practical and sustainable.
What fire safety services does Concept provide?
Concept delivers comprehensive Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) programmes for our clients nationwide. Our capabilities span from initial risk identification and reporting through to complete remedial and installation works.
Our services include:
All our manufacturing carries third-party accreditations from FIRAS, BM Trada, or IFC. Our installation teams hold individual accreditation from these same bodies, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship.
What are active fire protection solutions?
Active fire protection systems respond dynamically to detect, suppress or facilitate escape during a fire event. These include both manual and automated systems such as AFD (Automated Fire Detection), AOV (Automatic Opening Vents), emergency lighting installations, fire detection networks, smoke alarms, sprinkler systems and wayfinding signage.
What are passive fire protection solutions?
Passive fire protection works by containing and slowing the spread of fire and smoke throughout a building. Concept installs cavity barriers, fire batts, pillows, sleeves, curtains, collars and wraps, firestops, penetration seals and Firetherm Intudeck systems in loft spaces to create effective fire containment zones.
How do active and passive fire protection work together?
Active and passive fire protection strategies are complementary elements of a comprehensive building fire safety strategy. Passive measures contain and slow fire spread, whilst active systems detect and suppress fires or aid evacuation, creating a layered defence approach.
What is compartmentation and why is it important?
Compartmentation involves dividing a building into separate fire-resistant ‘compartments’ designed to contain and suppress fire spread. Each compartment is reinforced with fire-resistant materials and protective measures including fire doors and cavity barriers, limiting fire progression and protecting escape routes.
How do sprinkler systems operate?
Sprinkler systems activate in response to elevated temperatures. When installed, individual sprinkler heads will discharge water across a room once temperatures reach 60-70 degrees Celsius.
Who carries out Concept’s fire safety works?
Our team brings over 20 years of specialist experience to every project. As members of all relevant compliance and regulatory bodies, our professionals hold the qualifications and training necessary to deliver expert fire safety solutions.
Fire risk assessment and remedial works should only be conducted by experienced, certified specialists like our team at Concept. We possess the essential knowledge and qualifications to assess fire risks accurately, specify appropriate fire-stopping measures, and deliver works to the highest quality and compliance standards.
Can fire protection measures be added to existing buildings?
Yes. Concept regularly retrofits fire protection solutions in existing buildings that require upgrades to meet current fire safety standards. Our retrofitting process involves comprehensive fire risk assessment, identification of deficient areas, and implementation of appropriate fire-stopping measures to enhance the building’s overall fire protection performance.
What is planned maintenance and why does it matter?
Planned maintenance is about staying ahead of problems before they start. We carry out scheduled inspections, servicing and repairs at times that suit you, keeping your property’s systems in peak condition year-round. It’s the difference between fixing a small leak during a planned visit and dealing with a burst pipe at 3am. It saves you money, extends the life of your assets, and keeps everyone safe and comfortable.
What does a planned maintenance programme include?
We build programmes around your specific needs. This typically includes regular inspections of heating, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, statutory compliance checks, servicing of automation and life safety systems, cleaning and maintenance of drainage and guttering and scheduled replacements before things fail. Everything is documented, tracked and planned well in advance so you know exactly what’s happening and when.
How do you create a maintenance schedule that works for your clients?
We start by listening. Every project is different, and we take time to understand yours – how your property is used, what matters most to you and where your priorities lie. Then we create a schedule that minimises disruption, fits your budget and meets all compliance requirements.
Who carries out the planned maintenance work?
Our skilled, qualified teams handle everything in-house. You’ll work with electricians, plumbers, heating engineers and multi-trade specialists who know their trade and take pride in their work. Every person on site has the right certifications and training for the job. Over time, they’ll get to know your property inside out, which means faster, smarter service.
How does planned maintenance save money in the long run?
It’s simple: prevention costs less than emergency repairs. Regular maintenance catches issues early. It extends the life of expensive equipment, reduces energy costs through efficient systems and dramatically cuts down on emergency callouts. You also avoid the hidden costs of downtime and disruption.
Can you work around our operations?
We work across a wide range of sectors and understand that needs can vary, We schedule work during quieter periods, evenings, or weekends if that suits you better. What are responsive repairs?
Responsive repairs comprise routine and everyday repairs, as well as emergency and urgent repairs. Responsive repairs resolve and restore defective assets back to full working condition. This could involve fixing the asset or replacing it entirely. This type of repair work occurs on an ad-hoc basis and is not included within a planned or cyclical maintenance programme. As the name suggests, responsive repairs occur in direct response to a reported breakdown. They quickly rectify issues as they occur. The reports, or requests for a repair may come from the landlord, the owner or the tenant/resident.
What's the difference between urgent, routine and emergency repairs?
Responsive repairs range from routine fixes to urgent or emergency issues, restoring assets to full working condition. Emergency issues include burst pipes, faulty boilers, loss of heat, water or electricity supply. Urgent issues might include issues like the presence of damp or mould which are injurious to health if left untreated. Routine issues include things like broken windows or taps. Concept’s experienced team assesses and prioritises repairs, with emergency teams available 24/7.
What sort of responsive repairs does Concept provide?
Our work will vary according to our client’s needs and the terms of our contract. Tenants can find out more about which types of repairs they are responsible for in their handbook. Our skills include:

Concept always ensures that clients’ project needs are completed by the appropriately skilled tradesperson who is qualified to do the job. Our team includes:
The health and safety of our people, clients, occupants and the public is paramount. Each individual working on-site has obtained the correct health and safety training and accreditations to ensure safe working practice. We aim for a first-time fix, delivered to an exceptionally high standard.
How quickly can Concept provide responsive repairs?
Concept takes a proactive approach to reduce the downtime and disruption to tenants and occupants caused by asset faults and failures. Our repair teams are on hand to react to issues as they arise, solving problems as quickly as possible. We are committed to continually improving call out efficiency.

Concept’s long-standing and trusted supply chain is on board to ensure that we have access to quality material needed to complete repair work. We keep residents informed about the progress of their reported repair.
Why are responsive repairs important?
Whilst planned and cyclical maintenance programmes work to reduce the likelihood of sudden asset and facility faults, it’s only natural that these assets may unexpectedly run into a fault from time to time. However, sudden issues can cause inconvenience and disruption to residents and compromise the overall standard of living.
Responsive repairs have one of the greatest impacts on residents’ quality of life. Concept values the importance of providing residents with a high level of customer care and satisfaction. Our responsive repair services are important for ensuring that residents can experience well-conditioned, fully functional and above all, safe and comfortable living spaces. If issues go unactioned or unreported, the quality of homes or living spaces is affected and in the long term, the general condition of the property can become compromised. Responsive repairs are not only important for maintaining residents’ standard of living but also work to protect the value and condition of the property and its assets for the future.
As a resident, how do I book a responsive repair?
Resident care is at the heart of all our work. Throughout the repair process all our employees will be courteous and treat you with respect. You can phone Concept’s dedicated service line, available 24/7, which you will receive from your landlord or housing provider. In some cases where available, you can book online using our automated booking service.
After our team has assessed the issue, a skilled operative is assigned to fix the problem, with full appointment tracking and communication to keep you posted about their arrival time.
What are voids repairs?
Empty social housing properties are referred to as voids. Voids repairs occur in between tenancies to repair and refurbish an empty property before it is re-let. The main purpose of void repairs is to bring the vacant property back to a lettable condition as quickly as possible.
This ensures that new tenants can move into a fresh, safe and comfortable environment – vital in enhancing resident satisfaction levels. Landlords often have a waiting list for their properties. Concept carries out voids repairs and refurbishments with maximum efficiency to reduce the turnaround time on empty properties. Additionally, by staying on top of issues that could become long-term problems, landlords can reduce repair costs in the future.
What does Concept's voids repair service include?
Concept’s property surveyors will identify any faults, damage and necessary maintenance requirements, checking that gas and electric systems are safe and in good condition, kitchen and bathroom facilities are fully functional and clean, and that the property is secure and free of infestation and damp and mould. We’ll put together a list of work that is required to bring the property back to a minimum lettable standard. Any damage or faults will be added to the list. Concept works alongside the landlords to complete any repair work within the scheduled time frame so that turnaround time is not delayed. Our schedulers will liaise with operatives and send the right teams or skilled individuals out to complete the job. This could include plumbing, gas, electrical and boiler work as well as window repairs, door or lock replacement. Once work is complete, we’ll provide photographic inventory and condition reporting.
