Refurbishment

Working with KBR, Concept carried out a full mechanical and electrical replacement alongside significant fabric repairs at St George’s Church, Bulford. Located adjacent to Bulford Camp, the project required additional precautions to avoid any disruption to live military sites and operations. The mechanical works included installation of a new Low Temperature Hot Water system, upgraded electric and infrared heating, improved boiler room ventilation, and renewed domestic water services. The electrical infrastructure was fully replaced, including distribution, lighting, surge protection, earthing upgrades, and a Category L1 fire alarm system, supported by a new Building Management System and integrated PA.

Extensive roof, stone and timber repairs were completed, alongside stained-glass conservation, internal refurbishments, and full redecoration, delivering a safe, compliant and efficient building fit for long-term use.

Integrating modern mechanical and electrical systems into a heritage structure presented challenges around routing, fixing methods and protecting original features. We addressed this through early design coordination, detailed surveys and close collaboration with conservation specialists to ensure new installations did not compromise the building fabric.

Roof renewals, stone repairs, stained-glass conservation and timber treatment works required specialist trades and careful sequencing. Timber elements affected by woodworm were treated to preserve structural integrity while maintaining original features. All fabric works were phased to keep the building weather-tight and stable throughout the programme.

By combining modern building management controls and energy-efficient heating systems with specialist conservation and timber preservation techniques, we delivered a compliant, efficient and future-ready facility while protecting the church’s architectural character.
