Location: Swanwick, Southampton, UK
Duration: September – December 2024
The MCA Swanwick project involved the refurbishment and fit-out of a steel frame building by Concept Building Services (Southern) Ltd. The primary objective was to enhance the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the facility, thereby creating a conducive environment for various training and operational activities. This initiative not only targeted improvements in usability but also aimed to provide a modern and welcoming space.
Critical updates were also conducted on the emergency lighting and fire safety detection systems, ensuring full compliance with current safety legislation. The refurbishment extended to washroom fixtures and fittings, accompanied by the supply and installation of new amenities in a designated shower room, significantly enhancing the overall user experience.
External works were not overlooked, and improvements included the installation of road markings and lighting systems to heighten safety, along with the establishment of a key safe for added security and functionality within the building.
A thorough asbestos survey was carried out and communicated to all relevant parties prior to the start of construction, guaranteeing safety and compliance with regulations. Additionally, the implementation of effective signage, fire protection measures, and health and safety protocols was prioritised to ensure the welfare of all personnel on site. A detailed site management plan was presented to the CA and client, which outlined operational procedures, safety measures, and contingency plans to be adhered to throughout the duration of the project.
To meet the necessary operational standards, all mechanical and electrical requirements were addressed, including the installation of modern lighting systems, heating solutions, and multiple electrical socket outlets to cater for a variety of purposes. Furthermore, the existing kitchen was completely removed and replaced with a brand-new kitchen, configured to meet contemporary culinary and operational expectations.
Following the successful completion of all site activities, a formal project handover was conducted. Concept Building Services (Southern) Ltd ensured that the MCA Swanwick facility was fully operational and met all design specifications and client requirements. With the improvements in both aesthetics and functionality, the building now serves as a state-of-the-art training facility.
The refurbishment of MCA Swanwick exemplifies our commitment to quality craftsmanship, adherence to safety standards, and dedication to exceeding client expectations, ensuring long-term satisfaction and utility for all users.
