Overview

Concept Building Services (Southern) Ltd were employed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to reinforce and restore the historic Ottoman wall which surrounds the British Embassy in the centre of Istanbul, Turkey.

This project involved excavating inside the wall, in sections to allow piles to be driven and then secured through the wall to support it. Whilst the sections were excavated, the wall was injected with grout and then base a lime plaster was applied. We then constructed a further wall below ground using traditional limestone to form a buttress wall the full length. The final operation was to apply and bond a layer of carbon fibre mesh to the wall internally to protect the wall in the event of any seismic movement, this wall then plastered over with a further coat of lime plaster.

Following the works the grounds surrounding the wall were made good and replanted.
