Here at Concept we constantly continue to support chosen individuals, charities and communities. In 2011 we sponsored a Victoria Gibson to undertake a PhD in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design. Dr. Gibson recently sent us the below update demonstrating the outcome of the research that she is now doing for various agencies around the world.
Subject: Thank You
Dear Mr Carty,
This email is to provide an update, and sincere thanks to Concept Building Services (Southern) Ltd for the kind sponsorship for my PhD programme between 2011-2015. Your funding allowed me to spend over 4 years researching in depth, the concept of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design. During this PhD I spent considerable time overseas in Trinidad and Tobago conducting empirical research into the awareness of local planning divisions with regards to crime prevention and social sustainability. My research found that the current crime prevention efforts that are implemented in the UK and US are limited by a lack of consideration for social context and in order for this to be applied elsewhere, a thorough understanding of environmental characteristics that may influence perception of crime and fear is required in order to make crime prevention efforts sustainable. This led me to develop a new framework to help planners and urban developers to consider crime and the impact that environments may have on fear.
Whilst in Trinidad, I provided the Trinidad Town and Country Planning Division with a guide to crime risk in a small area outside of the capital. This work not only helped to inform their efforts to increase pedestrianisation within a university district, but it helped me to explore the impact that my newly proposed framework may have on the awareness and ability to implement crime prevention measures through planning. This work will hopefully encourage further research and thought into crime prevention becoming a statutory part of planning universally, and that this cannot be considered without a thorough understanding of the social context and drivers of fear.
With the financial support offered by your company, this has enabled me to gain invaluable life experience travelling overseas and presenting my research at international conferences. I have been fortunate to have made some unforgettable memories throughout my time in Trinidad and hopefully have influenced planning practice in an area of the world which is fraught with crime and violence. Since my PhD I am now working in Staffordshire as a Senior Research Manager and have managed to sustain a very good career.
Thanks again, and I wish success for you and your organisation in the future.

Concept often realises the potential within certain individuals and will help them to realise that potential by supporting them the best way that we can.
On the 25th of July 2014, I had the pleasure to attend the Titchfield Boxing Club in Fareham to represent Concept Building Services when the club and their sponsors, of which we are one, received The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for voluntary service by groups in the community 2014, an award that is seen as the MBE within groups and organisations.
The evening was attended by club members both young and old and included after the presentation, which was done by the Baroness on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, some exhibition bouts.
The Baroness spoke about the work the club had done, not only to help those in the club, but to the wider community in the work they do. She also presented the trophies to the young boxers who had fought on the evening.
Afterwards, I spoke to the Baroness and we discussed the club, their work and the involvement and importance of our involvement and support with not only this club, but all the other charitable work Concept Building Services does.
As a company we should be proud of our involvement and the contribution made by Concept Building Services in helping the club gain this award.
